Yeah.
Though, not really a lot of places you can advertise for a forum, if you think about it. Only places to promote an FF forum, is on another FF, or SE forum, and a few sites that post other news about SE. Only real place for that is the official SE site....and I doubt they allow advertisements of forums (probably only google ads) - or if they did, it would be expensive.

can't we affiliate with non FF sites? Man it would be nice if we were able to affiliate with myspace. That's good marketing

We can affiliate with non-FF sites, just that we wouldn't get very many visitors out of it. The whole point of affiliates is to get people that like that sort of thing, like how facebook is advertised on myspace, we would be advertised on FF-related sites. If you didn't like myspace, be little point putting it in....lets say....a site about card games.

Though apart from advertising, you could also attract visitors by making something unique for the forum.

Yup. Like writing reviews, referring people, etc. That's why we give rep for them.
Writing original, player made reviews are better than any critic reviews, and we can go far more in-depth about what we liked, what we didn't like, and other specifics some people wouldn't go to. Referring people, that's just getting more people to the site. Always good.
