Battle System

Motomu Toriyama (Director) sayd in an interview, "Final Fantasy XIII took on the challenge of seeing how much of the battles in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children can be recreated in a game. The battles that were impossible to be presented in current Final Fantasy games were shown in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. In reverse, Final Fantasy XIII will show how much of that can be represented in the game."

The main objective of Square Enix for Final Fantasy XIII is to make battles look like Final Fantasy VII Advent Children's. More real, active, faster and with higher image quality.

Active Time Battle

So far there is an active time battle gauge. ATB Cost will be your primary key for ATB Gauge, every more you make will have it own cost, so you'll need to have an eye on it.

Radar

radar final fantasy xiiiThere is a radar, pretty different from the ones we use to see in the previous series. The red dots are enemies and you are the blue dot in the radar. Once you begin to attack both you and the monster -who is being attacked- get a circle arround their dot. If you use Magic attacks -as the trailer shows- or attacks that take damage to more than one enemy, then all enemies will have a circle around their dot. Its like a target lock on.

Overclock

overclock final fantasy xiii Overclock in Final Fantasy XIII will be like all other Final Fantasy games, FFVII's Limit Break, FFX's Overdrive etc... After killing enemies you Overclock gauge will raise, the more enemies you kill the more it raises, kinda like Final Fantasy IX's Trance system. When it's full, you'll be able to do some special attacks.
